Gastronomic Delights: Hokkaido Ramen Santouka

This is sure a late post but I really wanted to share our experience on our first try with ramen. A few weeks ago, hubby and I met at Glorietta – Ayala Center after office. Since it was my birthday, he asked me if I want to take our dinner before going home. It was nearing closing time and I don’t want to walk far, so we decided to look for a nearby restaurant. We entered the Hokkaido Ramen Santouka just right beside Tous Les Jours in Glorietta 4. We ordered their best seller ramens, the Shio (salt based) and Shoyu (Soy sauce based) ramen and we add up our favorite Japanese dumpling Gyoza.

The ambiance of the restaurant was nice and we did not wait that long for our bowls of steaming ramen. Upon tasting the first sip of the ramen, Nins and I were delighted. The soup was tasty and delicious and the noodles were firm . It was our first time to try the ramen and I now understand why there are so many ramen enthusiast around the metro, because the ramen was really delicious. We even initially thought that the ramen would be just good for one person but the one whole bowl can serve up to two persons especially if you are not a heavy eater. I know there are lots of ramen houses around Metro Manila and this was the first time we get to experience tasting the authentic bowl of Japanese ramen. Price wise it is quite expensive getting one hot bowl of ramen compared to the usual fast-food served ramen, but I would say every peso is worth trying with Hokkaido’s hot bowl of Shio and/or Shoyu. Nins and I will definitely go back to try their other ramen bowls.

Where to Find: Hokkaido Ramen Santouka at Glorietta 4 in Ayala Center. (There are other branches around the metro – their newest branch is in Solenad in Nuvali in Sta. Rosa, Laguna)

Price Range: 300 pesos and up

Ambiance: Good for both solo dine in or groups. Longer lines and longer waiting time during peak hours and pay days

Service: Staff are attentive and quick service of ramen bowls

Overall experience: Will definitely go back again especially for moments of looking for comfort food.
